Kolkata, May 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) With the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal, a bulldozer was used to demolish an illegal factory in a residential building in Tiljala area of Kolkata on Wednesday where a fire broke out killing two persons.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The demolition action on the factory began within 30 hours of the fire incident.
The new BJP-led state government has already received the initial report on the Tiljala fire incident.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Wednesday afternoon that the factory was running illegally.
He ordered the demolition of the illegal infrastructure within a day following which the demolition of the factory began.
Police forces were deployed in the area to ensure that no untoward situation arises during the demolition of the factory.
Central armed forces were also deployed at the site during the demolition drive.
On Tuesday afternoon, a fire broke out in a leather factory on the second floor of a multi-storey building at GJ Khan Road in Tiljala of Topsia area.
The area falls under Tiljala police station.
The fire had spread quickly following which two people died in the incident. Three more persons are undergoing treatment in the hospital suffering with severe burn injuries.
The area adjacent to the building was barricaded on Wednesday afternoon.
The new state government had formed an inquiry committee on Tuesday to investigate how the incident took place.
Based on that report, Chief Minister Adhikari said on Wednesday afternoon that the Tiljala factory had no building plan and was operating illegally.
The general fire safety measures were also not in place.
The police have already arrested the owner of the leather factory, Zafar Nishar, in connection with the fire incident.
After the Tiljala incident, the Chief Minister ordered to cut off the water lines of all illegal and dangerous factories in Kolkata.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said that notices are being sent to illegal buildings that do not have a fire license or no objection certificate.
The owners of those buildings will first be given a chance to rectify the situation.
Even after that, if the rules are not followed, action will be taken as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, Minister Agnimitra Paul added.
