"Born Hungry" is a true story that follows the journey of Sash Simpson, a young Indian boy who was abandoned by his family, lost on trains, and ended up thousands of miles away from home. Despite these challenges, Sash's story takes a remarkable turn as he survives alone on the streets of Chennai, eating from garbage bins, before being adopted by a Canadian couple. Now, a celebrity chef, Sash returns to India armed with only blurry memories, on a mission to find his lost family.
The documentary premiered at the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival and is set to screen at the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto on April 26, 2024. The collaboration between Melbar Entertainment Group, Purple Pebble Pictures, and Barry Avrich promises to bring Sash Simpson's inspiring story to life on the big screen.
