United Nations Day Message by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Mr. Sylvestre RadegondeUnited Nations Day serves as an occasion to reflect upon the remarkable achievements and enduring values of the United Nations. This day reminds us of the collective responsibility we all bear to build a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world for present and future generations. It is a time to reaffirm our commitment to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, which remain as relevant today as they were when they were first articulated 78 years ago.

As a Small Island Developing State, Seychelles recognises the instrumental role that the United Nations plays in addressing global challenges. From promoting peace and security to advancing sustainable development, the United Nations acts as a vital driving force for positive change. It provides a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building, fostering a spirit of multilateralism that is essential in today’s interconnected world.

Seychelles fully embraces the values and principles of the United Nations. We remain committed to contributing to the organisation’s efforts in addressing pressing global issues such as conflict resolution, climate change, ocean conservation, poverty eradication, and the promotion of human rights. We firmly believe that through collective action and collaboration, we can overcome these challenges and create a more equitable and prosperous world for all.

On this day, we acknowledge the immense contributions made by the United Nations in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Seychelles remains resolute in its commitment to achieving the SDGs, recognising that their successful implementation requires the active involvement of all stakeholders, including governments, civil society, the private sector, and the international community.

As we celebrate United Nations Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter. Let us work together to build a world that is free from poverty, conflict, and injustice. Let us foster a culture of peace, tolerance, and understanding, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of sustainable development.

Let us unite as a global community, driven by a shared vision of a better world. Together, we can overcome our challenges and build a brighter future for all.
