Malagasy Students Learn about Life and Study in the United States

The U.S. Embassy hosted a multicultural exchange between American professors and students from Lafayette College, Pennsylvania and Malagasy students and teachers from Lycée Andohalo today as part of the Lafayette Initiative for Malagasy Education (LIME).  This three-week cross-cultural partnership between the two institutions promotes understanding between Americans and Malagasy. Since its inception in 2010, 150 Lafayette College students and faculty have mentored nearly 300 Malagasy high school students on the U.S. study applications process; ten of these students have gone on to study in the United States.

This year, Malagasy students met with the EducationUSA Madagascar advisor to learn how to apply to U.S. colleges and heard from two U.S.-educated Malagasy alumni about life and study in the United States. Students also discovered many of the resources offered at the American Corners. American mentors and students met with the Public Diplomacy Officer to learn about the work of diplomacy and the role of U.S. embassies around the world.
