El ejrcito ruso lanz el lunes por la maana un aluvin de ataques contra ciudades ucranianas y golpe objetivos civiles como el centro de la capital, Kiev, donde murieron al menos ocho personas.
El presidente de Rusia, Vladimir Putin, dijo ms tarde que los ataques a Ucrania eran una represalia por lo que llam actos "terroristas" de Kiev, como un ataque el fin de semana a un importante puente entre Rusia y la anexionada Pennsula de Crimea.
