“Agillence TMS will give Nissan North America the ability to reduce planning cycle time and help find cost savings opportunities,” said Steve Jernigan, Sr Director, SCM Logistics, Nissan North America.

The automotive industry is facing tough challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, chip shortage, driver shortage, and supply chain disruptions because of the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war. Now customers are forced to wait for a car for a month or more and want to have visibility of their order. Car manufacturers are close to a built-to-order environment to meet the demands of the customers. Car makers' current IT systems, once designed to work in a stable production environment, are unable to support the new paradigm.

Agillence is a supply chain optimization software company with offices in Reston, VA, and Southfield, MI. Agillence has been working exclusively on the automotive inbound logistics space for nearly 20 years. Agillence provides the right people, process, and technology to ensure optimized material flow. Agillence is helping car makers and suppliers to efficiently plan and move parts in their networks to meet their lean production challenges, as well as, reduce transportation costs. Leveraging  SaaS delivery and automotive industry-specific TMS, implementation and operating times and costs are greatly reduced.

Agillence TMS is a unique SaaS solution developed to solve automotive-specific parts logistical challenges. Agillence TMS consists of Agillence Lean Logistics Optimizer (ALLO) & Agillence Logistics Management System (ALMS) and provides complete support for the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle for continuous improvement. Agillence TMS has built-in crossdock management functionality that delivers real-time end-to-end part-level visibility and control in the multi-tier crossdock network. Agillence partnered with real-time visibility platform vendors FourKites and FreightVerify to get load level ETAs to update part level ETAs within Agillence TMS.

Agillence TMS is making inroads with many car makers and their suppliers. Last year Toyota selected ALLO for planning their production and service parts logistics at both strategic and tactical levels.

Dr Jeffrey Liker, a keen observer of Toyota and author of several books on Toyota, in his The Toyota Way Fieldbook detailed the story of how Toyota picked Agillence to build the optimization system, which is the basis for the ALLO tool. Toyota is considered the benchmark for its efficiency in lean manufacturing and driving out waste and reducing costs in operations.

Steve Banker, a senior industry analyst, ARC Advisory Group, explained in his research notes how inbound transportation is different from distribution and how a Tier 1 supplier asked Agillence to build ALMS when they could not find any off-the-shelf TMS solution to manage their complex inbound network consisting of more than 50 plants, 1000 suppliers, 8 car makers and 5 crossdocks across North America. The Director of Logistics of Tier-1 supplier said this implementation has allowed his company to reduce its freight costs by ten percent

Agillence TMS was built for automotive customers with their sponsorship & specifications and is now available as a SaaS solution for other car makers and suppliers to take advantage of.

“We are really excited with the Nissan North America opportunity, which further validates our niche automotive-specific TMS SaaS solution,” said Srini Paruchuri, Vice President, Customer Strategy and Solutions of Agillence.

It is encouraging news for Agillence that car makers and suppliers are willing to spend on their software solutions even with the recession clouds and market uncertainty.
