T'gana forms panel to mitigate human-animal conflict
Hyderabad, March 2 (SocialNews.XYZ) Concerned over the growing number of human-animal conflict cases in Telangana, the state government on Tuesday announced a 10-member committee to recommend the measures for mitigating such incident.

The committee will propose measures to avoid recurrence of incidents of tigers killing human beings, said a government order.

The panel will also suggest measures to evolve a mechanism for mitigating 'human-wildlife' conflict review and propose revision, if any to the existing compensation package. It will also propose guidelines for settling the claims for human death, human injury, cattle kills and crop damage.

The committee has been asked to submit its report in three months.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF) will take necessary action accordingly.

The committee comprising officials and experts will be headed by state Forest Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy while Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Chief Wildlife Warden Telangana Forest Department, R. Sobha will be the member Convenor.

The committee has been constituted in the wake of growing number of cases of tigers and leopards straying into human habitations in the state, causing panic among public.

In November, 2020, two tribal youth were mauled to death by tigers in two separate incidents in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district.

The suspected 'man-eating' tiger, codenamed "A2" by the forest officials, is also believed to have made nearly 20 cattle kills in the last two months.

The forest in Asifabad district bordering Maharashtra is considered hotbed of the human-animal conflict.

There have been instances of tiger sightings in other districts of Telangana during last few days. The big cats reportedly killed a few cattle.
