Prateik Babbar pens down heartfelt note on mother Smita Patil’s 34th death anniversary

Actor Prateik Babbar remembered her mother and veteran actress Smita Patil on her 34th death anniversary on social media on Sunday. In his post, ‘Mulk’ actor said that over the years, he has imagined and created perfect image of Patil as a mother. He added saying that his mother will forever live with him and within him.

Sharing the monochrome image of his mother on Instagram handle, Prateik wrote, “34 years ago today my mother left us.. over the years.. iv tried to imagine & create the perfect image of her.. in my mind & heart.. we’ve arrived at a very special place.. a very precious place.. now.. she’s the perfect mother.. the perfect woman.. the perfect role model.. the apple of every little boys eye.. that perfect mother every little boy idolises.. & wants to grow up to be like.. the one that will never leave your side.. & stay with you.. #4ever.. till the end of time.. & every year.. she grows younger.. with me.. she’s 65 years young now.. she will continue to live with me.. within me.. to infinity.. & beyond.. my beautiful.. mama queen.. my reason.. numero uno.. my #superstar #legend rest in #love.. in #power.. in #paradise”.

 

Smita Patil was a film, television and theatre actress who regarded among the finest stage and film actresses of her times and one of the greatest film actresses of all time. She appeared in over 80 Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam and Kannada films in a career that spanned just over a decade.

During her career, she received two National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award. She was the recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour in 1985. She made her film debut with Shyam Benegal's ‘Charandas Chor’ (1975). She became one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema, a new wave movement in India cinema, though she also appeared in several mainstream movies throughout her career.

Her performances were often acclaimed, and her most notable roles include ‘Manthan’ (1977), ‘Bhumika’ (1977), ‘Jait Re Jait’ (1978), ‘Aakrosh’ (1980), ‘Chakra’ (1981), ‘Namak Halaal’ (1982), ‘Bazaar’ (1982), ‘Umbartha’ (1982), ‘Shakti’ (1982), ‘Arth’ (1982), ‘Ardh Satya’ (1983), ‘Mandi’ (1983), ‘Aaj Ki Awaaz’ (1984), ‘Chidambaram’ (1985), ‘Mirch Masala’ (1985), ‘Amrit’ (1986) and ‘Waaris’ (1988).

Smita Patil tied the knot with actor and politician Raj Babbar. She died from childbirth complications (Puerperal sepsis) on 13 December 1986 at the of age 31, barely two weeks after having given birth to her son, Prateik Babbar.

On film front, Prateik Babbar will next be seen in Sanjay Gupta’s period crime-action film ‘Mumbai Saga’ and Anubhav Sinha’s political satire film ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ along with an ensemble cast.
