Shelter home rape cases: Opposition lawmakers march to Raj Bhawan

Shelter home rape cases: Opposition lawmakers march to Raj BhawanPatna, Nov 29 (IANS) Alleging non-serious attitude of the Nitish Kumar government towards Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases and deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar, opposition lawmakers led by Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday marched to the Raj Bhawan and met Governor Lalji Tondon.

"The Supreme Court has repeatedly slammed the Bihar government over Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases. Yet, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is silent and his government is trying to protect the accused," Tejashwi Yadav told media after he met the Governor.

Tejashwi alleged the state government was busy destroying evidence and was "weakening" the case to save main accused Brajesh Thakur, currently lodged in Patiala jail in Punjab.

RJD's senior legislators and allies Congress and HAM leaders took part in the Raj Bhawan march. Tejashwi along with former chief minister Jiran Ram Manjhi, who is president of HAM, and state Congress president Madan Mohan Jha also met the Governor.

"The Governor listened to us carefully and agreed that Muzaffarpur shelter home rape cases are serious and that the government should take action against the accused," Manjhi said.

Earlier, opposition members protested inside and outside the Bihar Assembly over the shelter home cases. Tejashwi Yadav demanded that the mobile phone details of Brajesh Thakur, the key accused in the shelter home cases, be made public.
