Modi, Abe meet for annual bilateral summit

Tokyo, Nov 11 (IANS) Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe formally met for the annual India-Japan bilateral summit here on Friday.

"Another landmark India-Japan Annual Summit commences. PM @narendramodi is welcomed by PM @AbeShinzo at Kantei, the Prime Minister's Office," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted and posted a picture of the two leaders together.

 

A number of agreements are expected to be signed following delegation-level talks to be headed by Modi and Abe.

Modi, who arrived here on Thursday, started Friday by calling on Japanese Emperor Akihito.

He also attended a meeting of the India-Japan Business Leaders' Forum and addressed a business luncheon of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Keidanren or the Japanese Business Federation.

Later, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Economy, Trade and Investment Minister Hiroshige Seko and former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori called on the visiting Indian Prime Minister.

This is Modi's second visit to Japan in two years.
