Hariprasad Chaurasia renders 'Saare jahan se...' on flute

New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) Internationally renowned flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia has played an instrumental rendition of the iconic track "Saare jahaan se achcha" ahead of Independence Day. He says it evokes "pride".

Darbar-E-Taj, a YouTube channel dedicated to Indian classical music, has presented the soul-stirring rendition. It has been conceived, conceptualised and produced by live entertainment platform #fame.

Talking about it, Chaurasia said in a statement: "In my opinion, this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of what it means to be an Indian. It evokes great pride in our national identity in every citizen, be it young or old, making it the perfect choice to celebrate the spirit of Independence."

Chaurasia's flute plays a subtle jugalbandi with the tabla. In a fitting end to the emotional high, Shubh, son of popular playback singer Shaan, sings the first two lines of the song sans any music.

The young star-in-the-making will also soon be known as the voice behind a popular web series.

Proud father Shaan said: "This is a song that all of us have grown up singing and listening to. While the composition in itself is deeply steeped in patriotism and national pride, having a legend like Pandit Hariji deliver such a wonderful rendition, makes it transcendentally beautiful.

"It is a huge honour for my son to be a part of this ode to the country and its people."
