The story takes place in a turbulent period where a cruel Austrian Hapsburg king (played by Sir Ben Kingsley) occupies the Swiss cantons, oppressing the people through heavy taxation and violence. When a farmer, driven by the oppression and injustice, seeks revenge, he finds only one person willing to help him—William Tell, a man who has just returned from fighting in the Holy Land with the Knights Templar.
Now looking for peace and a quiet life with his wife (played by Golshifteh Farahani), Tell’s principles and sense of justice are tested when pushed to the brink by the villainous actions of the Hapsburg court.
