TN Minister Keerthana condemns DMK woman functionary’s abusive remarks against CM Vijay

Chennai, Oct 19 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu Minister Keerthana has strongly condemned alleged abusive remarks against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay by a DMK women’s wing functionary, questioning MP Kanimozhi and Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan for failing to intervene during the speech at a Chennai public meeting.

In a sharply worded social media statement, Keerthana accused the opposition party of tolerating personal attacks against a democratically elected Chief Minister.

She asked Kanimozhi and Priya, who were seated on the dais, whether they would publicly condemn the remarks or remain silent.

The controversy erupted after video clips of the speech circulated widely on social media, drawing protests from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam supporters. The woman allegedly used derogatory language against Vijay while accusing his government of failing to fulfil its election promises.

According to reports, she repeatedly called the Chief Minister a “dog” and alleged that the TVK administration was merely continuing subsidy schemes introduced by the previous government headed by M.K. Stalin.

TVK workers demanded police action against the speaker and others present on the platform. They questioned whether allowing such remarks was consistent with the progressive political values advocated by the DMK.

Keerthana alleged that Priya laughed during the speech while Kanimozhi remained seated without registering even a token objection. Some reports, however, described Kanimozhi as appearing uncomfortable during the remarks.

The minister said frustration over electoral defeat could not justify insulting an elected Chief Minister or appearing to enjoy such attacks from a public platform.

She argued that political leaders had a responsibility to maintain standards of public discourse, irrespective of their differences.

Keerthana also linked the controversy to earlier remarks allegedly made by DMK leaders against women, claiming that voters had already expressed their disapproval through the party’s recent bypoll defeats.

She said women’s participation in politics carried a responsibility to uphold dignity and accountability in public life. Merely occupying a political platform, she argued, was insufficient without maintaining those standards.

Urging Kanimozhi and Priya to condemn the speech, Keerthana warned that voters were closely watching the conduct of DMK leaders and would respond in future elections.
