Sandeep Reddy Vanga Calls Vijay Deverakonda the Next Defining Action Hero of Indian Cinema After Ranabaali: ‘Raw, Untamed Ferocity’

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has heaped praise on Vijay Deverakonda following the release of Ranabaali, calling the actor the next defining action hero of Indian cinema. Taking to social media, the director applauded Vijay’s intense action sequences, powerful screen presence and striking portrayal of Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali. His enthusiastic endorsement has added to the conversation surrounding the historical action drama, which arrived in theatres on October 16, 2026. For fans of Vijay, the praise from the filmmaker behind Arjun Reddy and Animal makes for an especially exciting moment.

In his post, Vanga wrote, “Vijay… your action has a raw, untamed ferocity that can’t be manufactured. There’s a terrifying intensity in the way you fight. I genuinely believe you'll be the next DEFINING ACTION HERO OF INDIAN CINEMA.” He followed the message with an affectionate reference to Vijay’s character, Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, ending with the spirited Telugu phrase, “RA NEE AKKA.” The emphatic message reflected his admiration for the actor’s performance and his confidence in Vijay’s potential to make a lasting mark on the action genre.

Vanga’s appreciation, however, went beyond Vijay’s action sequences. In another post, the filmmaker encouraged audiences to watch Ranabaali, praising the actor’s character portrayal and the emotional connection between Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna. He highlighted Rashmika’s performance as Jayamma, describing it as deeply authentic, and suggested that the pair’s chemistry went beyond conventional on-screen romance. Vanga also praised the film’s music by Ajay–Atul and thanked director Rahul Sankrityan for approaching the historical subject with care and curiosity. He noted that the film explored a part of history that, in his view, school textbooks had been reluctant to address.

Vanga’s reaction carries an added layer of significance because of his longstanding association with Vijay Deverakonda. The two worked together on Arjun Reddy, the 2017 Telugu romantic drama that became a major talking point for its intense storytelling and Vijay’s uncompromising performance. The film played an important role in establishing Vijay’s reputation as an actor willing to embrace emotionally demanding characters. Their professional association has remained a point of interest for fans, making Vanga’s latest endorsement particularly noteworthy. His comments also underline how Vijay’s screen persona continues to evolve, with Ranabaali presenting an opportunity to explore a more physically formidable character.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in a historical drama set against the backdrop of the Madras Famine of 1876–78. The film explores the harsh realities of the period and the resistance associated with British colonial rule. By combining historical events with a dramatic narrative, the film seeks to bring a turbulent chapter of the past to the big screen. Its subject matter, period setting and action-driven storytelling distinguish it from a conventional commercial entertainer, while the performances remain central to its appeal.

With Ranabaali now in theatres, Vanga’s comments have added fresh momentum to discussions about Vijay’s latest performance and his future in action cinema. Whether audiences ultimately agree with the filmmaker’s bold prediction remains to be seen, but the praise highlights the impact Vijay’s portrayal has made on a fellow filmmaker who knows his screen presence well. For now, the spotlight is firmly on Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a character that has inspired one of the most emphatic endorsements of Vijay Deverakonda’s career.
