‘The Kumbha Destined to Make His Mark on the World’: SS Rajamouli’s Birthday Wish for Prithviraj Sukumaran Has Varanasi Fans Buzzing

SS Rajamouli has a powerful birthday message for Prithviraj Sukumaran, and it comes with a tantalising tease about Kumbha! The filmmaker took to X to wish the actor on his birthday, writing, “Happy birthday Prithvi. Didn't want to awaken the Kumbha within you today. The Kumbha who is destined to make his mark on the world.” Adding the hashtag #Varanasi and tagging Prithviraj’s official handle, Rajamouli turned a simple birthday greeting into a moment that has fans of his upcoming epic eagerly reading between the lines.

The birthday wish is particularly intriguing because Prithviraj is set to portray Kumbha, the powerful antagonist in Rajamouli’s much-anticipated film Varanasi. By referring to the character as someone destined to make his mark on the world, the director has offered a playful yet compelling glimpse into the scale of the role. The accompanying photograph shows Rajamouli and Prithviraj smiling together outdoors against a hilly backdrop, adding a personal touch to the filmmaker’s message and giving fans another moment to celebrate their collaboration.

Naturally, the mention of Kumbha has fuelled excitement around Varanasi, with fans interpreting Rajamouli’s words as a possible tease about the character and the impact he could have on the film. While the director did not reveal any new plot details, the carefully chosen wording has sparked curiosity about what Prithviraj’s antagonist will bring to the story. Given Rajamouli’s reputation for creating larger-than-life cinematic worlds and memorable characters, the promise of Kumbha making his mark has only heightened anticipation.

Varanasi is an upcoming Telugu-language epic action-adventure film directed by SS Rajamouli, who has co-written the screenplay with V. Vijayendra Prasad and S. S. Kanchi. The film stars Mahesh Babu in a dual role alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Its story follows Rudhra, played by Mahesh Babu, as the city of Varanasi faces the impending arrival of an asteroid, with the narrative unfolding across several timelines. The combination of a globe-spanning adventure, time-spanning storytelling and a formidable antagonist has made the project one of the most closely watched Indian film ventures.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 7, 2027, coinciding with Ugadi. It is also set to make a technical milestone as the first Indian film shot in the 1.43:1 IMAX format. With its ambitious premise, high-profile cast and Rajamouli at the helm, Varanasi is already generating considerable buzz well ahead of release. Now, the filmmaker’s birthday message has given fans another reason to speculate about the world he is building and the characters at its centre.

For Prithviraj, Rajamouli’s words are more than a warm birthday greeting; they spotlight the anticipation surrounding his transformation into Kumbha. The director’s playful remark about not awakening the character on the actor’s special day has struck a chord with fans, while the description of Kumbha as destined to make his mark has left them wanting more. With the film still months away, the birthday post has delivered the kind of intriguing tease that keeps the conversation around Varanasi alive.
