Gujarat completes over 96 pc of ration supplies to fair price shops ahead of Diwali

Gandhinagar, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) More than 96 per cent of the transportation of foodgrains and essential commodities from warehouses to fair price shops across Gujarat has been completed as the state government begins advance distribution for October ahead of Diwali, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Raman Solanki said on Wednesday.

The state government has decided to distribute foodgrains and essential commodities to ration cardholders in advance during October, in addition to the regular monthly allocation, as Diwali falls in early November this year.

As part of the additional festive allocation, each ration cardholder will receive one litre of double-filtered groundnut oil and one kg of sugar. This will take the total sugar allocation to two kg per ration card.

Solanki said adequate stocks of groundnut oil and sugar were available at fair price shops.

Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, P. C. Baranda, said: "Approximately 1.95 lakh metric tonnes of commodities had been delivered to fair price shops out of a total of around two lakh metric tonnes to be transported through the Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation."

Commodity-wise, 98 per cent of the allocated wheat, rice, gram and sugar had reached the shops, while the corresponding figure for tur dal was 97 per cent.

Around 90 per cent of double-fortified salt and 93 per cent of one-litre packs of double-filtered groundnut oil had also been delivered.

Fair price shop operators have started distributing the commodities, with the advance distribution receiving a positive response from ration cardholders.

"In Vadodara, 2,12,660 oil pouches out of a total of 2,27,790 had reached the designated fair price shops, accounting for 93.34 per cent of the consignment. The remaining 15,130 pouches are to be delivered at the earliest," he added.

The advance distribution is intended to ensure that ration cardholders receive their regular monthly supplies along with the additional essential commodities ahead of the Diwali festival.
