Mandla, Oct 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) A traffic constable in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla district has been suspended after a video showing his conduct while on duty at a busy traffic signal went viral on social media, police said on Wednesday.
The constable was deployed at Chilman Chowk, where he was seen using a microphone to address commuters and advise them to follow traffic rules.
The video was reportedly recorded on Tuesday night.
His manner of speaking and behaviour in the video led to speculation on social media that he was under the influence of alcohol while on duty.
Police, however, have not confirmed the allegation, and an inquiry has been ordered.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Verma said the video came to the notice of senior officials, following which the Superintendent of Police suspended the constable with immediate effect.
"A video went viral, which came to our notice. The employee concerned had been posted there for nearly two years," Verma told IANS.
He said the video attracted attention because of the constable's conduct and that, considering the lapse, the Superintendent of Police ordered his immediate suspension.
The video shows the constable addressing motorists and pedestrians through a microphone at the intersection while traffic was being managed.
The incident attracted considerable attention on social media, with the conduct of the on-duty policeman drawing criticism from commuters and residents.
Verma said further investigation and necessary action had been entrusted to the Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP).
He added that all station in-charges had been instructed to take steps to prevent such incidents in future.
The police department has also directed station in-charges to ensure that personnel maintain proper conduct while performing their duties.
The inquiry will establish the circumstances surrounding the constable's conduct and determine whether any further disciplinary action is warranted.
The suspension came after the video circulated widely on social media and brought the conduct of the traffic policeman under scrutiny.
