Bengaluru, Oct 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)] delegation led by BJP Bengaluru South district president and Jayanagar MLA C.K. Ramamurthy on Wednesday visited the Jayanagar police station and demanded the withdrawal of an FIR registered against BJP workers in connection with voter-ID verification in the constituency.
The delegation staged a protest against what it termed a false FIR and alleged that the police had adopted a one-sided approach in registering the case against BJP workers.
Ramamurthy, along with Govindarajanagar constituency leader and district vice-president Umesh Shetty, Bengaluru South district JD(S) president Krishna, and several BJP leaders and workers from Jayanagar, met the police and submitted a memorandum.
The leaders alleged that BJP workers had legally submitted Form-7 applications to verify the names of fake and duplicate voters in the electoral rolls.
However, they claimed that the applications had been distorted for political motives and that false cases had been registered against party workers.
They also expressed displeasure with the election authorities and the police, alleging that applications that were supposed to be kept confidential were handed over to Congress workers.
They further alleged that the police hurriedly registered an FIR against BJP workers based on the applications.
The delegation demanded that the FIR be withdrawn immediately.
The leaders warned that the BJP and JD(S) would launch an intensified agitation in the coming days if the case were not withdrawn.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against five persons at the Shanivarasante Police Station in Madikeri district in connection with the alleged misuse of Form-7 applications to seek deletion of voters' names from the electoral roll as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by G.M. Safvaan.
The accused have been identified as BJP Booth Level workers Lokesh, Rajini, Nagaraj, Basavaraj and Savitha Malali.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly misused Form-7 applications to seek the deletion of the names of 64 persons from the voters' list in Byadagutta village in Madikeri district.
The complaint alleged that the Form-7 applications were submitted seeking deletion of the 64 voters' names during the ongoing SIR exercise.
Police have registered a case against the five persons and are investigating the allegations.
The case comes amid a controversy in Karnataka over the alleged misuse of Form-7, which is used to seek deletion of names from electoral rolls.
Political parties have traded allegations over the submission of applications seeking deletion of voters' names during the SIR process.
