Prime Video’s Barbershop Teaser Brings a New Generation to Calvin’s Shop

Prime Video's Barbershop Teaser Brings a New Generation to Calvin's Shop

Prime Video is bringing a fresh generation to one of cinema’s most beloved neighborhood hangouts with the first-look teaser trailer for Barbershop, a new comedy series inspired by the classic film franchise. Led by the incredibly talented Jermaine Fowler as Travis “Trav” Walker, the series heads back to Chicago for another round of sharp fades, louder opinions and the kind of hilarious community drama that only a barbershop can deliver. The teaser promises plenty of personality as Trav steps into a space filled with history, humor and customers who always seem to have something to say.

In the new series, Trav returns to Chicago with one big goal — to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and become a barber at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. But things aren’t exactly the way he remembers them. The shop has changed, the city has changed, and Trav quickly discovers that carrying on a family legacy is easier said than done. As he finds his footing among a new crew of barbers and a colorful collection of loyal customers, Calvin’s continues to serve as the neighborhood’s unofficial meeting place.

The teaser tagline, “Fresh cuts coming February 10, walk-ins welcome,” sets the tone perfectly for the series. At Calvin’s, the conversations can be just as entertaining as the haircuts, with lively debates, hilarious arguments and plenty of opinions flying around. Trav may be trying to master the art of barbering, but he is also stepping into a community where everyone has a story, everyone has an opinion and nobody is afraid to share it.

The new Barbershop series features a strong ensemble cast alongside Fowler, including Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. With a mix of experienced comedy performers and fresh talent, the show looks ready to create its own identity while keeping the heart of the franchise intact. Marshall Todd and Max Searle serve as creators and showrunners, with writing from Raina Morris, Rachelle Williams-BenAry, Max Searle and Marshall Todd, while Oz Rodriguez directs episodes.

The original Barbershop hit theaters in 2002, directed by Tim Story and starring Ice Cube as Calvin, turning the neighborhood shop into one of the most memorable settings in early-2000s comedy. The franchise went on to produce Barbershop 2: Back in Business in 2004, Beauty Shop in 2005 and Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2015. Now, more than two decades after audiences first walked into Calvin’s shop, Prime Video is giving the concept a modern makeover and putting a whole new barber behind the chair.

Barbershop is set to arrive on Prime Video on February 10, 2027, giving fans a new reason to visit Calvin’s shop early next year. With Jermaine Fowler taking center stage as Trav, the series has the chance to blend the nostalgia of the original movies with a younger, contemporary energy. If the first teaser is anything to go by, the clippers are ready, the chairs are open and the neighborhood is already talking.
