New Delhi, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Kerala's ruling UDF convener Adoor Prakash reached the national capital on Monday and began his efforts to take his differences with Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to the Congress high command, with his first stop being a meeting with party President Mallikarjuna Kharge.
Prakash is understood to have handed over a written complaint alleging that the Chief Minister has been functioning in an autocratic manner and taking key decisions without adequate consultation with the UDF and the party.
He is staying on in the national capital and is expected to seek a meeting with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, as well.
Emerging from the meeting, when the media got near him and despite a volley of questions on whether he has submitted a complaint against Satheesan, he just responded with one word: "Yes".
State Congress President and Power Minister Sunny Joseph, who is also in Delhi, has sought to keep the issue within the party.
He has said he would prefer to discuss party matters within the four walls of the organisation.
On Prakash's visit to Delhi, Joseph said every party leader has the right to meet the high command.
The Satheesan camp is now closely watching the outcome of Prakash's meetings with the central leadership.
There are also indications that leaders opposed to Prakash's position may seek to present their side before the high command too.
Reports had earlier indicated the possibility of an alternative representation from the camp supporting the Chief Minister.
Prakash's revolt was triggered by his complaint that important decisions of the government and the UDF were being taken without adequate consultation with him as convenor.
He has maintained that his criticism was based on his own experience and that he acted independently.
The dispute has revived memories of the Congress's long history of factional politics in Kerala.
From the days of K. Karunakaran and A.K. Antony to the Oommen Chandy era and now the Satheesan leadership, group equations have repeatedly influenced the functioning of the state Congress.
The latest confrontation comes barely four months after the Congress-led UDF government assumed office.
The delay in organisational restructuring, including the appointment of a new state President after Sunny Joseph took charge of the Power Ministry, is also being viewed through the factional prism.
For now, both camps are looking towards Delhi.
The immediate question is whether the high command can contain the dispute or whether Prakash's Delhi intervention will open another full-fledged factional chapter in the Congress, which has seen numerous power struggles in the past.
