MP CM urges voters to verify electoral details amid SIR exercise

Bhopal, Oct 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday urged citizens to verify their names and details in the electoral roll and asked young people who have attained the age of 18 to ensure their names are registered as voters.

The Chief Minister’s appeal came amid a political debate in the state over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission.

“For a robust democracy, it is vital that the electoral roll remains up-to-date, transparent and reliable,” Yadav said in a statement, adding that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India is a crucial step in this direction and involves the verification of the electoral roll.

He urged citizens to participate in the process and verify their electoral details, while appealing to eligible young voters to get their names included in the roll.

The Chief Minister also cautioned people against relying on unverified information or rumours regarding the revision exercise and asked them to follow the procedures prescribed by the Election Commission.

“Do not pay heed to any confusion or rumours regarding the SIR. The entire process, including Form 6 and the declaration, is prescribed by the Election Commission,” he said.

In his statement, Yadav also urged citizens of Madhya Pradesh to rely on official information and procedures issued by the poll panel while dealing with matters related to electoral registration and revision.

The SIR in Madhya Pradesh was conducted with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. The exercise began in October 2025, and the final electoral roll was published on February 21, 2026.

The final roll contained 5,39,81,065 electors, compared with 5,74,06,143 in the electoral roll before the revision.

The revision had become a political issue in Madhya Pradesh, with the Congress questioning the deletion of names from the electoral roll and staging protests over the exercise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has defended the revision, saying it is necessary to maintain accurate electoral rolls.

The Election Commission has said the SIR is intended to verify electoral entries and ensure that eligible voters are included, while ineligible, duplicate and other invalid entries are removed.
