The Representative Statement was presented to Anupam Kher by Representative Maria Cervania, acknowledging his contribution to the world of arts and entertainment. The honour also highlights his extensive film career spanning more than 500 films, his National Film Awards, Padma honours, and contributions to arts education. The recognition also made a special mention of his musical Jaane Pehchaane Anjane, which explores relationships and human connections, and its recent performance in Raleigh.
Sharing the official statement, Anupam Kher wrote, "ONE MORE HONOUR IN USA! Honoured, humbled and filled with joy! Thank you, Honorable Representative Maria Cervania, for presenting this Representative Statement in the #NorthCarolina House of Representatives, welcoming me to the General Assembly and the State of North Carolina. It is deeply moving to see my journey acknowledged so generously from my work in Indian and international cinema to my National Film Awards, Padma honours and contributions to institutions that have shaped generations of artists. What makes this recognition even more special is its mention of our musical #JaanePehchaaneAnjane, its exploration of relationships and human connections, and our performance in Raleigh. To arrive here with a play close to my heart and receive such a welcome is a wonderful feeling! My heartfelt thanks also to Congresswoman #DeborahRoss for having me over and for the warmth and respect you extended to me. Moments like these make me grateful for every opportunity, every teacher and every audience that has been part of my journey. Thank you, North Carolina, for this honour and for making me feel so welcome! Jai Hind! @RepDeborahRoss"
The moment was also captured on video, showing Kher responding to the honour inside the House chamber and accepting the commendation folder. He spoke with humility about his journey from Shimla and thanked everyone involved in making his visit special. For an actor whose career has travelled from Indian cinema to international platforms, the recognition adds another meaningful chapter to his already celebrated journey.
The honour comes at a particularly special time as Kher continues to take Jaane Pehchaane Anjane to audiences in the United States. The musical's focus on relationships and human emotions has given the actor another creative avenue beyond films, while his Raleigh performance brought the project directly into the celebrations surrounding his US visit.
With this recognition from North Carolina, Anupam Kher continues to celebrate a career that has crossed generations, mediums and borders. From films and theatre to his contribution to arts and education, his journey remains closely connected with the audiences who have supported him over the years. And this time, North Carolina gave him another reason to celebrate, with the actor accepting the honour with gratitude and his signature Jai Hind spirit.
