Chennai, Sep 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Special Investigation Team probing the child sexual abuse case against Gem Granites founder R. Veeramani, 84, is likely to file its chargesheet before the Special POCSO Court within 10 days, police sources said.
Investigators are nearing completion of their enquiry into the first case, registered in October 2025.
The anticipated filing comes about a month after Veeramani’s arrest on August 29, following a court order directing police to continue the investigation.
A senior police official said the team expected to submit the chargesheet within a week or 10 days and was working to complete the process as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the SIT is examining fresh complaints alleging sexual abuse of minors by Veeramani.
Police said a separate chargesheet would follow in another POCSO case registered on Monday, based on a complaint from the mother of a minor girl.
The officer said investigators were also expediting that enquiry. The proposed chargesheet in the original case and the investigation into the newer complaint are proceeding separately.
The first case was registered on October 7, 2025, after an NGO volunteer approached the Greater Chennai Police’s Anti-Vice Squad with a pen drive containing a video purportedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor.
Police subsequently sought to close the case in February, citing difficulties in identifying the girl seen in the video.
However, the Special POCSO Court rejected the closure report and directed further investigation, keeping the proceedings alive.
On August 29, the Anti-Vice Squad of the Central Crime Branch arrested Veeramani, M. Shanthi, 60, and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, 63, nearly 11 months after the case was registered.
The three were booked under Sections 7, 8, 15(1) and 21(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Police also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after establishing that one of the survivors belonged to a Scheduled Caste community.
Ganesan, 45, a former employee of Veeramani, was subsequently arrested for allegedly possessing the video and failing to report it.
All four accused remain in judicial custody. Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal constituted the all-woman SIT on September 24 to investigate the original case and related matters, including additional complaints reaching investigators.
