Indore, Sep 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) A B.Tech student was killed and her brother critically injured after a Municipal Corporation water tanker hit their two-wheeler in the Chhota Bangarda area of Madhya Pradesh here on Wednesday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Archita Jhar, a resident of Katni, who was pursuing her B.Tech degree at Symbiosis University in Indore.
Her brother, Pranay, who was riding the two-wheeler, suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.
The siblings were travelling near Vedanta School when the tanker collided with their two-wheeler, police said.
The impact threw Archita onto the road, following which she came under the tanker and died on the spot.
Pranay was also injured in the collision and was rushed to a hospital, where he is being treated. Doctors are monitoring his condition, police said.
After the accident, the tanker driver allegedly fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.
Some passers-by chased him, caught him and handed him over to the police.
The crowd allegedly assaulted the driver.
Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia said the accused driver had been arrested and an investigation was underway into the circumstances leading to the accident.
Police identified the accused as Shubham alias Sohan Choukse, a resident of Gandhi Nagar.
Police have registered a case and taken the tanker for examination.
The victim's family has been informed, and police said they are completing the necessary legal procedures.
Investigators are examining evidence from the accident site and recording witness statements to establish the sequence of events.
Police are also investigating the circumstances under which the civic vehicle was operating in the area.
Police said further investigation was underway.
