Jaipur, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two alleged middlemen who were accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh in Rajsamand on behalf of Sanwal Ram, Superintendent (Tax Evasion), Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate, Udaipur.
The accused middlemen have been identified as Anil Pareek and Sushil Pareek. Sanwal Ram has also been detained in connection with the case. According to Govind Gupta, Director General of Police, ACB, the operation was conducted by the Rajsamand ACB unit on the directions of the ACB Headquarters.
The ACB said a complainant, who owns two registered firms, approached the Rajsamand unit alleging that Sanwal Ram was demanding a bribe of Rs 60 lakh through middleman Anil Pareek. According to the complaint, the alleged bribe was sought in connection with several matters involving the complainant's firms. These included refraining from initiating recovery proceedings against one firm, resolving a show-cause notice and summons, and resolving summons and notices issued to the second firm and reactivating its account, said the complaint.
The complainant alleged that he was being pressured to pay Rs 25 lakh as the first instalment of the total amount. The ACB said the alleged demand was verified by Himmat Charan, Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB Rajsamand, under the supervision of Rameshwar Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, ACB. During verification, the ACB found that Rs 25 lakh was allegedly being demanded as the first instalment “on behalf of Sanwal Ram through middleman Anil Pareek”. Following the verification, the ACB conducted a trap operation on Tuesday. According to the ACB, Anil Pareek and Sushil Pareek were arrested while allegedly accepting the Rs 25 lakh bribe. The money was reportedly received through Sushil Pareek.
During the operation, Sanwal Ram was also detained. The ACB said a search of Sanwal Ram's residence in Udaipur is underway under the supervision of ACB Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala. Interrogation of the two alleged middlemen and further legal proceedings are currently underway. The ACB said a case would be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation would follow.
The allegations against the accused are subject to investigation and further legal proceedings. The ACB said that if a formal complaint, preliminary inquiry or other case is registered against an individual, the person may directly contact the ACB and submit their explanation or version. The bureau said its standard operating procedure is to take decisions regarding an investigation only after examining the explanation and relevant material in detail.
