Bhopal, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Madhya Pradesh Police have seized nearly 60 quintals of illegally cultivated cannabis worth around Rs 3 crore in Khargone district, in one of the biggest such actions in the district.
Police made the seizure at two locations in Jamli and Faliya villages under Operation ‘Prahar’, where teams used drones to search fields in remote areas without mobile network connectivity.
A total of 15,191 cannabis plants weighing 5,974 kg (59.74 quintals) were seized from the two locations.
The police teams reached the fields after negotiating rivers, hilly terrain and difficult routes. Drones helped the teams identify and search plantations in difficult-to-access areas.
A police official said that drone surveillance was used to search the fields, following which police teams reached the locations through rivers, hilly terrain and difficult routes.
At Jamli, police seized 9,391 cannabis plants weighing 3,765 kg and valued at Rs 1.88 crore, while 5,800 plants weighing 2,209 kg and valued at Rs 1.10 crore were recovered from Guwada Thata Faliya.
Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigations are underway, police said.
The Khargone action was part of a five-day statewide crackdown against illegal cultivation, transportation and smuggling of narcotic substances.
During the period, police operations across several districts resulted in the seizure of narcotics and property worth more than Rs 3.91 crore, officials said.
In Indore, police recovered 65 grams of MD drugs in two operations conducted within 24 hours and seized brown sugar in separate actions by local police and the Crime Branch.
Narsinghpur Police seized 60.04 grams of smack and arrested two alleged traffickers, besides recovering a motorcycle allegedly used in the trafficking.
In Gwalior, police arrested two persons and recovered 13.128 kg of cannabis, allegedly brought from Odisha for sale in Dabra.
Another police official said that action against the illegal cultivation, transportation and smuggling of narcotic drugs is continuing across Madhya Pradesh.
Panna, Damoh and Shivpuri police also reported seizures of cannabis and arrests in separate operations during the five-day crackdown.
