Aizawl/Imphal, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) Mizoram Transport Minister Vanlalhlana on Tuesday flagged off two 21-seater passenger buses, formally launching inter-state bus services between Mizoram and neighbouring Manipur, officials said.
The Minister flagged off two passenger buses from the Transport Office premises in Chaltlang, initiating an inter-state bus service scheduled to commence regular operations between Sairang, near Aizawl and Lamka in Manipur’s Churachandpur district from October 1.
Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Vanlalhlana emphasised that unity among the Zo kindred tribes (Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribals) residing across different hills is essential to building a great nation, noting that Mizoram serves as a central home for all kindred brethren.
Expressing deep concern over the travel hardships faced by community members due to the ethnic strife in Manipur, the Minister voiced hope that this transport initiative will significantly ease cross-border travel between Manipur and Mizoram.
He further expressed optimism that the service will serve as a vital instrument in fostering stronger brotherhood, harmony, and unity.
Mizoram Chief Minister’s Adviser (Technical) H. Ginzalala, addressing the function, stated that robust connectivity across various sectors is among the most critical components of development. He remarked that the ethnic crisis in Manipur has, in many ways, strengthened the bond of solidarity between the Mizos in Mizoram and the Zo brethren in Manipur.
Calling on attendees to emulate, learn, and exchange only what is good and constructive, he urged travellers to uphold Mizoram's reputation as a land that respects law and order.
During the event, Siamnunlian Valte briefed the gathering on the operational details of the service, while R. Lalrammawia, Director of the Transport Department, highlighted key regulatory and logistical aspects of the inter-state route.
Under the VK Tawna Inter-State Bus Service, two 21-seater buses will operate daily between Lamka in Manipur and Sairang in Mizoram. The distance of approximately 360 km is estimated to take around 12 hours of travel time. The fare has been fixed at Rs 2,500 per passenger, and tickets can be booked online via the VK Tawna Bus Service mobile application.
Meanwhile, in a significant development, inter-state passenger bus services between Manipur, Assam and Nagaland resumed on August 21 after a gap of more than three years.
The passenger bus services along National Highway-2 had remained disrupted following the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo tribal communities in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
The Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) and the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati National Highway (NH-2) are the two crucial lifelines of Manipur, connecting the state with the rest of the country.
