Mysuru, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a shocking incident, a man allegedly poured petrol over himself. He forcibly embraced a young woman after she rejected his love proposal near Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru on Tuesday.
Both sustained burn injuries, with the man reportedly suffering around 80 per cent burns and the woman about 20 per cent.
The man has been identified as Chandan, a resident of Alagodu village in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district. He allegedly pursued the young woman, who is from the same village, and became upset after she rejected his advances.
According to preliminary information, the woman was on her way to college from a hostel in Vijayanagar when Chandan intercepted her a short distance away. He reportedly poured petrol over himself and then forcibly embraced her, putting her life at risk.
The woman managed to escape from his grip, while police and bystanders intervened. Chandan sustained severe burn injuries and was shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, where he is battling for his life.
The woman also sustained burns and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru.
The distressed young woman, supported by her parents, lodged a complaint at Vijayanagar Police Station. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident, including the sequence of events and how she sustained injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Chandan, who was staying at a hostel in Vijayanagar and pursuing a diploma in engineering, had been insisting on a relationship despite repeated rejection.
Angered by this, he allegedly appeared suddenly when the woman was leaving for college, poured petrol over himself and attempted to embrace her tightly.
Sensing danger, the woman freed herself and ran away. However, she sustained burns on around 20 per cent of her body due to the intensity of the fire. Police confirmed she is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.
