Dhanush’s 56th film, tentatively titled D56, has officially begun its journey, with the makers announcing the start of production through a special video from the film’s traditional pooja ceremony. Sithara Entertainments shared glimpses of the launch and wrote, “#D56 ~ The Next Chapter Begins. Action & Roll! Summer 2027 Release.” The ceremony was held at Maranadu Karuppanasamy Temple in Madurai, marking an auspicious beginning for what is being positioned as a mass commercial entertainer.

The project brings together Dhanush and filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the director behind the much-loved sports drama Lubber Pandhu. While details about the storyline remain under wraps, the makers have indicated that D56 will explore a more mainstream commercial space, combining the actor’s performance-driven presence with the director’s distinctive storytelling sensibility. The production officially moves forward after the team completed its initial location recce and began filming following the Aadi period.

D56 also boasts an ensemble cast that immediately adds to the excitement surrounding the project. Alongside Dhanush, the film features veteran comedian Vadivelu, actor S. J. Suryah, Vijay Kumar and Preity Mukundan.
