Bhopal, Sep 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madhya Pradesh Indian Police Service Association has strongly condemned comments made by senior Congress leader and former minister Sajjan Singh Verma against Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Indore) Narendra Rawat following an altercation during Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme on September 19.
According to a press note issued by the association on Monday, the association assigned DCP Narendra Rawat of the Indore Urban Police responsibility for stage management and security arrangements at the event held in Indore.
During the programme, a large crowd gathered in the pandal, affecting the arrangements. The officer, following pre-issued official guidelines, was managing the crowd as part of his official duties.
In this context, Sajjan Singh Verma made statements to the media regarding the police officer on duty. The association described these comments as indecent, objectionable and insulting. It condemned the act in strong terms and urged public representatives to maintain dignified, restrained conduct towards public servants.
Reports indicate that Verma, reacting to the stage confrontation between the DCP and event organisers, remarked that an ordinary officer was behaving like “Singham” without realising that this is Indore, where many such officers have come and gone.
He also suggested that the officer should understand that governments change.
The association’s press note emphasised that police personnel were performing their assigned responsibilities under official instructions.
It expressed concern over the language used against an officer discharging duty and urged elected representatives to uphold decorum while interacting with or commenting on public servants.
The incident occurred amid a heavy turnout at the student outreach programme addressed by LoP Rahul Gandhi. Police managed crowd control and security at the venue. Videos of the exchange between the DCP and organisers circulated, prompting political reactions.
The Madhya Pradesh Indian Police Service Association has demanded that public representatives maintain respectful behaviour towards officials performing official duties. The body stated that such comments undermine the dignity of the police force and the principle of institutional respect.
