Guwahati, Sep 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Congress General Secretary and Assam in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Monday alleged that an understanding between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal was evident in the ongoing electoral contest in Nagaon.
Addressing the media in Nagaon, Baghel claimed that the political understanding between the two leaders could be seen during the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election.
“Right now, elections are underway here in Nagaon, and the alliance between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is visible here,” Baghel said. However, he did not elaborate on specific incidents or evidence supporting his allegation.
Baghel’s remarks come amid an increasingly competitive electoral contest in Nagaon, where the Congress and the BJP-led alliance are campaigning to consolidate support ahead of polling on October 6.
Meanwhile, the Congress has announced a list of 40 star campaigners for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, featuring senior party leaders and prominent figures from Assam and other states. The list was submitted to the Election Commission by Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on September 16 under Section 77(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Among the prominent campaigners named are former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MP Wazed Ali Choudhury, former Assam minister Rakibul Hussain and party spokespersons Pawan Khera and Supriya Shrinate. The list also includes NSUI national president Uday Bhanu Chib and Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
Other senior leaders named as star campaigners include Assam Congress Legislative Party leader Debabrata Saikia, former state Congress president Ripun Bora, former minister Paban Singh Ghatowar, Alka Lamba, Imran Pratapgarhi, Srinivas BV and former Tripura minister Sudip Roy Barman.
The Congress is seeking to strengthen its campaign in the constituency as political parties mobilise support ahead of the bypoll. Polling for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is scheduled for October 6, while the counting of votes will take place on October 9. The election is expected to witness a multi-cornered contest involving the Congress, BJP and other political parties.
