New Delhi, Sep 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political analyst and former BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Friday lashed out at Bollywood actor Swara Bhaskar over her remarks on the Ram Janmabhoomi verdict, saying that the mentality of "demeaning Hindu community must stop".
A row erupted after Bhasker revealed that when the Ram Janmabhoomi verdict was announced, she reached out to superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan to express her solidarity.
She said she felt ashamed and, as such, reached out to all the Muslims she knew to tell them that she didn't agree with the Supreme Court's judgment.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Poonawalla said: "Swara Bhasker, please stop now! Because this anti-Hindu stance, anti-national rhetoric and constant belittling of Hindus must end. The verdict on the Ram Mandir came through the Supreme Court -- and these people claim to champion ‘saving the Constitution'. Do Rahul Gandhi and Swara Bhasker believe that the wisdom of the Supreme Court was flawed?"
He asserted that the Hindu society has set the "finest example" by remaining steadfast in its struggle of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement for 500 years and finally securing its rights through constitutional means.
"In Islamic countries, they smash statues of Lord Buddha. Yet here, Hindu society displayed immense patience, and still you (Swara Bhaskar) are insulting that very community," he remarked.
Referring to the previous 'Jauhar' remark made by Bhaskar, the former BJP leader said: "Hindu daughters, mothers, and women faced the mindset of invaders like (Alauddin) Khilji, whose mentality was akin to that of ISIS (similar to how ISIS treated Yazidi women)...At that time, those women felt that choosing 'Jauhar' was an exercise of bodily autonomy—a decision not to submit to sexual violation. You cannot judge 'Jauhar' with today's standards; in our current constitutional framework, a rape survivor has options to live her life and seek justice. But that was not the case back then."
Earlier, Swara Bhaskar, while revisiting her eight-year-old open letter to 'Padmaavat' maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, said that the representation of thousands of women committing 'Jauhar' to protect their "honour" could make rape survivors look like "cowards" today for choosing to live.
"This mentality, of whitewashing Khilji while demeaning Hindu society, must stop," Poonawalla stressed.
Meanwhile, Shehzad Poonawalla, along with Swara Bhaskar, is set to participate in an upcoming reality show.
When asked about a possible alliance on the show, Poonawalla said: "There can be no question of friendship or alliance with someone who is opposed to the nation and Hindu society."
