Patna, Sep 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The district general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) was found dead at his residence in Saharsa district, with police suspecting that the murder took place on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as 26-year-old Abhijit Singh Rajput, alias Raja, was discovered inside a locked house in Gautam Nagar (Ward No. 15) under the Sadar police station area on Friday afternoon.
Abhijit, originally from Garhbaruari village in Supaul district, had been living at his own house in Gautam Nagar. BJYM District President Surjit Singh Kushwaha said the youth leader had not been responding to phone calls for the past two days.
On Friday, one of Abhijit’s friends visited the house and, after receiving no response, looked through a window and saw him lying unresponsive in the bedroom. Police were informed and later opened the main door, finding him dead inside.
Locals claimed Abhijit had sustained a gunshot injury to the head. Police confirmed the head injury but have not disclosed further details on the manner of the shooting. Investigators are examining whether the victim knew the assailant, given the circumstances of the locked residence.
Saharsa SDPO Pankaj Kumar Singh said preliminary inquiries indicated that Abhijit had gone to attend a party before the incident. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to collect evidence, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said they are investigating all aspects of the case, with efforts underway to identify and arrest those responsible. Records reportedly include past cases registered against Abhijit.
Abhijit’s father, Harshvardhan Singh, an engineer, died of cancer in 2018, while his mother passed away in 2017. He was the elder of two brothers, with his younger sibling currently in Delhi preparing for the UPSC examination.
His uncle, Avadhesh Kumar Singh, said the family was shocked by the incident and demanded an impartial investigation and immediate arrest of those responsible.
