Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sep 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) Launching a scathing attack against the Maharashtra government on Marathwada Liberation Day, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray led a high-octane regional protest, accusing the ruling Mahayuti coalition of staggering governance failures, administrative apathy, and severe neglect of the drought-hit region.
Under the hard-hitting campaign, 'Marathwadyacha Vikas Tumse Na Ho Payega (You won't be able to develop Marathwada)', the Shiv Sena (UBT)-spearheaded widespread demonstrations targeted an alleged massive backlog of Rs 60,000 crore in the region's overall development.
Setting an aggressive timeline, Thackeray announced that the SS(UBT) senior leadership—including himself and Aaditya Thackeray—would tour the state starting October 5, to inspect crop damage assessments (panchnamas) directly at the ground level.
Addressing a gathering, Thackeray took sharp aim at the Maharashtra government's decision to delay crop loss assessments until October 5, mocking top leaders for acting like astrologers rather than administrators.
"We rely on the panchang to do everything, so October 5 has been set as the auspicious date," Thackeray taunted, ridiculing the administration. "Farmers take their own lives out of sheer suffering and distress, not by looking at an auspicious timing in a panchang."
Drawing a sharp contrast with neighbouring Karnataka — where the Congress-led government declared a state drought on August 27 and immediately rolled out direct relief —Thackeray demanded an urgent drought declaration and immediate financial support for distressed farmers, fiercely rejecting delayed satellite-based assessments.
Directly holding the administration accountable for the rising number of farmer suicides taking place prior to official survey dates, the former Chief Minister demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the agrarian deaths.
Thackeray levelled major allegations of financial corruption against the Mahayuti government's flagship welfare initiatives, alleging a massive Rs 5,000 crore scam within the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme.
Turning his focus to the national leadership, Thackeray mounted a defence of Maharashtra's linguistic identity.
Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks labelling Maharashtra a "multilingual state," Thackeray questioned whether the Home Minister would dare make similar statements in states like Gujarat, Karnataka, or across South India.
Calling for broad solidarity among Maratha, OBC, and Adivasi communities, Thackeray accused the ruling administration of deliberately engineering social divides—specifically pitting Marathas against OBCs—for immediate political gains.
He highlighted the plight of Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil, contrasting Patil's desperate hunger strike with the political leadership's priorities, noting that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was travelling abroad to receive an award while the state faced severe social and agrarian unrest.
In an unexpected emotional appeal, Thackeray raised lingering doubts surrounding the tragic death of senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, stating that the mystery behind his fatal accident remains unsolved.
He pointed out that Munde tragically passed away before he could even take his seat in the Lok Sabha as a Union Cabinet Minister. He lamented the premature loss of both Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde—two towering stalwarts who built the party's foundation in Maharashtra and held the potential to give the nation a Prime Minister from Marathwada—before they could see the full fruits of their hard work.
Praising youth activist Abhijit Dipke for fearlessly confronting the administration, Thackeray issued a stern warning to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stating that the rising force of youth power would inevitably bring down the current government.
