Chennai, Sep 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) DMK president M.K. Stalin said he was recuperating at home on doctors’ advice after being diagnosed with viral fever and would remain on rest for another two or three days.
"Following a fever caused by a viral infection, I have been resting at home as per the doctors' advice. As a result, the events that were previously planned have been postponed. The new date for the postponed Muperum festival will be announced later, in accordance with the instructions of the DMK General Secretary," Stalin said in a post on X.
"Leaders from various political parties and movements in Tamil Nadu, as well as friends from the arts world, have reached out to my office and lovingly inquired about my health. I express my heartfelt gratitude not only to the leaders of alliance parties but also to the love and concern shown by leaders of other parties and movements," he added.
His illness forced the party to postpone its annual Mupperum Vizha, which was scheduled to be held at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.
The celebration commemorates the birth anniversaries of Dravidian leaders Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai, as well as the foundation day of the DMK.
Senior party functionaries are traditionally honoured with awards during the event.
Stalin was also scheduled to pay floral tributes to Annadurai’s statue at Valluvar Kottam on his birth anniversary. However, he could not attend after falling ill.
DMK members, led by Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, garlanded the statue and paid their respects.
DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, who arrived for the programme, told reporters that the Mupperum Vizha had been postponed because Stalin was unable to participate.
He said a revised date for the event would be announced later. In a social media post, Stalin thanked political leaders, members of various movements, friends from the film industry and others who contacted his office to enquire about his health.
He expressed gratitude not only to leaders of parties allied with the DMK but also to those belonging to other political parties and organisations.
Stalin said programmes scheduled earlier had been postponed following his illness and confirmed that he would continue resting at home for a few more days, as advised by doctors.
Referring to Annadurai’s birth anniversary, Stalin said he was pleased to see DMK cadres organising various commemorative programmes across Tamil Nadu.
He urged party workers to celebrate Periyar’s birth anniversary and the DMK’s foundation day with similar enthusiasm on September 17.
Stalin said party members would garland Periyar’s statues and pay tributes across the state. He also instructed functionaries to administer the Social Justice Day pledge at all DMK offices.
Marking the beginning of the DMK’s 78th year, Stalin appealed to party cadres to renew and hoist party flags at offices and other designated locations.
He thanked cadres and well-wishers for their concern and assured them that he was recovering under medical supervision.
