Crystal Lake Trailer Brings Friday the Thirteenth Origins to Life With Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees

The story of Jason Voorhees is going back to where the nightmare began. A24 has unveiled a chilling look at Crystal Lake, the upcoming prequel series to the iconic Friday the 13th horror franchise. Set before the events of the original 1980 slasher, the eight-episode series promises to explore the tragic history of Jason, his mother Pamela Voorhees and the small town that would eventually become synonymous with horror.

At the centre of the series is Linda Cardellini, who takes on the role of Pamela Voorhees. The story unfolds nearly a year after the tragic drowning of her young and sickly son Jason in Crystal Lake. Still consumed by grief, Pam's life takes a disturbing turn when two strangers arrive at her doorstep and begin asking questions about her past.

Their arrival sets off a chain of events that forces the residents of Crystal Lake to confront a question that will ultimately change the town forever: Who exactly is Pam Voorhees? Rather than simply revisiting Jason's legendary killing spree, Crystal Lake aims to dig into the emotional and psychological roots of the character and the tragedy that shaped the franchise.

Callum Vinson plays a young Jason Voorhees, giving fans a chance to see the character before he became the hockey-mask-wearing slasher who terrorised generations of horror fans. The ensemble also features William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, Phoenix Parnevik and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.

Adding another layer of authenticity to the project, the series returned to Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown, New Jersey, the real-life location used for the original Friday the 13th in 1980. Recreating scenes in the same camp and surrounding area connects Crystal Lake directly to the visual history of the franchise and gives the prequel an unmistakable sense of nostalgia.

The series comes from creator, writer and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, with episodes directed by Logan George, Celine Held, Michael Lennox and Quyen Tran. With A24 behind the project, Crystal Lake is also expected to bring a fresh filmmaking sensibility to a franchise that has remained one of the defining names in American slasher cinema.

While the original Friday the 13th introduced audiences to the deadly secrets of Camp Crystal Lake, the new series appears ready to explore the tragedy that existed before the murders began. Pamela's grief, Jason's childhood and the mysterious events surrounding the town are set to form the foundation of a story that could dramatically reshape how viewers understand one of horror's most infamous families.

Crystal Lake will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026, arriving just in time for the Halloween season. For longtime Friday the 13th fans, the combination of Pamela Voorhees' origin story, a young Jason and a return to the original camp location makes this one of the most intriguing horror series of the year.
