Daisy Shah Welcomes Ganpati Bappa Says Spirituality Is About Keeping Your Heart Pure and Intentions Genuine

Ganpati Bappa Morya! Bollywood actress Daisy Shah has welcomed Lord Ganesha into her Mumbai home with the same warmth and devotion that has made the festival a deeply personal tradition for her family. While the idol has already arrived, Daisy revealed that the preparations at home were still in full swing, with lighting and the main decorations being put together. For the actress, however, Ganesh Chaturthi is about much more than creating a beautiful festive setup—it is about family, faith and a private connection with the divine.

Speaking about the preparations, Daisy admitted that the work was still underway when she interacted with the media. “Bappa has arrived, but the lighting and the main decoration are yet to be done; it’s still a work in progress,” she said, adding that the family was racing against time to get everything ready. With only a couple of hours left before noon, the actress was hopeful that the decorations would be completed in time for the celebrations.

The next day and a half will follow a familiar family tradition. Daisy revealed that her extended family travels from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to join the celebrations in Mumbai, turning the occasion into a proper family reunion. Friends are also an important part of the festivities, with Daisy sharing that they traditionally visit her home for the Aarti on the first day. It is this combination of family and friends that gives her Ganpati celebrations their intimate yet lively atmosphere.

The colour of the Ganpati idol has also evolved over the years. Daisy revealed that she had a maroon-coloured Ganpati for seven years before deciding it was time for a change. After experimenting with grey last year, the actress has once again chosen the same colour family this time, albeit with a slightly different finish. “It’s grey this time too, but with a bit of a silver-grey tone,” she explained.

For Daisy, the annual arrival of Bappa carries an even deeper significance because of the responsibility she took on within her family after her father's passing in 2007. Her family has been bringing Ganpati home since 2003, but following her father's death, Daisy took over the planning, decoration and management of the celebrations. What began as a family tradition has therefore become something she personally carries forward with considerable love and responsibility.

Asked whether any of her wishes have actually come true after praying to Bappa, Daisy had plenty to share. She revealed that several things she had hoped for over the years eventually became reality, including a bigger and better home, a better car and a better lifestyle for herself and her family. She also spoke about her family growing in ways she had wished for, describing how several personal desires eventually came true.

However, Daisy was careful to point out that some wishes are simply too personal to discuss publicly. For her, the relationship between an individual and God is deeply private. “The connection between you and God is like a muscle,” she explained, adding that while people can encourage one another to strengthen their relationship with the Divine, the things one personally asks for are often matters best kept between the individual and God.

Interestingly, Daisy's understanding of spirituality is not tied to rigid routines or elaborate rituals. Asked whether she considers herself highly spiritual and whether she begins every day with prayers, the actress offered a refreshingly candid perspective. “I have two or three prayers that I recite after my shower,” she said, making it clear that spirituality for her is not about following a strict clock.

Daisy believes that faith does not necessarily depend on what time someone prays or how elaborate their rituals are. “I believe spirituality means doing things in your own way. Your heart should be pure, and your intentions genuine,” she said. According to the actress, it makes little difference whether someone prays at four in the morning or three in the afternoon—the sincerity behind the act is what truly matters.

That philosophy perhaps explains why Ganesh Chaturthi means so much to Daisy. Beneath the lights, decorations, Aarti and family gatherings is a much quieter relationship with Bappa—one built over years of tradition, personal wishes, gratitude and faith. As her home fills with family and friends and the silver-grey Ganpati takes centre stage, Daisy Shah is once again continuing a tradition that has become an important part of her family's story.

For Daisy, welcoming Ganpati Bappa is not simply an annual ritual. It is a reminder of everything her family has experienced, everything they have received and everything they continue to hope for. And as she puts it, perhaps the most important part of spirituality is not when or how you pray, but whether your heart is pure and your intentions are genuine.
