Kolkata, Sep 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha on Saturday launched a blistering attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) amid Election Commission of India's (ECI) hearing over the party's name and election symbol.
Sinha said that whatever decision the Election Commission takes in the matter will have to be accepted by all sides.
He claimed that Mamata Banerjee no longer enjoys public support, while the BJP has the backing of people in West Bengal as well as across the country.
Speaking to IANS, the BJP MP said that there were no leaders left with Mamata Banerjee.
He also alleged that several of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress' senior leaders had already deserted her.
"In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee has no right to call herself the 'real' Trinamool Congress. The people will decide the outcome of this entire matter in the coming days," the BJP MP said.
Asked about a scam in Kolkata, Sinha also questioned the alleged role of TMC leader Madan Mitra.
He said that Mitra himself should clarify what his role was in the matter.
Launching a broader attack on the TMC, Sinha said that it was clear to the public who was corrupt and who was honest.
He alleged that political leaders were attempting to shift blame onto one another to protect themselves.
The BJP MP also targeted the previous governments of the Congress, CPI-M and TMC in West Bengal, alleging that they had failed to give adequate importance to Bengali sentiments and had insulted Bengali culture and Sanatan Dharma.
Referring specifically to BJP ideologue and founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Sinha alleged that attempts had been made to keep him away from public attention and erase his contribution from public memory.
He said the BJP was working to ensure that Syama Prasad Mukherjee received due recognition and respect.
Sinha also slammed the Opposition over the observance of Durga Puja during Pitru Paksha.
He alleged that ignoring religious traditions and disrespecting Sanatan Dharma had contributed to the political decline of the Opposition.
He claimed that the present BJP government in West Bengal was working to promote Sanatan Dharma and preserve the country's cultural traditions.
