Sagar, Sep 11 (SocialNews.XYZ) The district administration in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar on Friday removed alleged encroachments on government land linked to the accused in the spurious liquor case, including the demolition of an illegal extension of a roadside eatery on NH-44.
A joint team of the Revenue and Police departments reclaimed 4.79 hectares of government land in Simariya Uvari village in Shahgarh, allegedly occupied by Chandrabhan Rajput, an accused in the Banda illicit liquor case.
Sagar district administration in a statement said the land was meant for the village watchman's service.
Rajput had allegedly cultivated crops on two plots measuring 4.56 hectares and 0.23 hectares.
The joint team removed the encroachment, destroyed the crops and took the land back into government possession.
The administration also carried out demolition at Saurabh Dhaba on NH-44 after finding alleged encroachment on government land.
The illegal extension of the eatery was removed and the encroached portion was reclaimed, an official said.
A similar drive was conducted along the Bandri-Malthon toll stretch to identify and remove illegal dhabas, shacks and other structures on government land.
The administration was also examining the assets and activities of other accused in the liquor case.
The administrative action came as police continued their investigation into the spurious liquor tragedy, which has claimed 16 lives.
Another 32 people are undergoing treatment at different hospitals, while 17 of the 30 accused named in the case have been arrested.
Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested the main accused Ravi Lakhera (45) following an encounter in the Baraytha forest, around 40 km from Sagar district headquarters.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jayveer Bahdoriya said Lakhera sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire and was taken to hospital.
Two men accompanying him on a motorcycle managed to escape.
Lakhera is alleged to have been involved in manufacturing spurious liquor along with licensed liquor contractor Manish Lodhi alias Yashwant Singh Lodhi, which was allegedly distributed through peddlers in Sagar district.
Earlier on Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said those responsible for the Sagar hooch tragedy would face action.
"No one will be spared and strict action will be taken against those responsible," CM Yadav told IANS.
