Little Thomas Brings The Magic Of Childhood To The Big Screen

Anurag Kashyap is inviting audiences to take a nostalgic trip back to childhood with Little Thomas, an upcoming comedy-drama that follows the innocent adventures and endless questions of a seven-year-old boy growing up in Goa. The filmmaker recently shared the film’s release announcement, describing it as a warm and funny ride through the early 1990s. Directed by National Award winner Kaushal Oza, the film is set to arrive in cinemas on October 23.

At the centre of the story is little Thomas, a curious seven-year-old whose biggest strength may also be his biggest source of trouble — he simply has too many questions. From innocent childhood curiosities such as “Where do babies come from?” to the everyday ups and downs of family life, the film promises to see the world through a child’s wonderfully uncomplicated eyes. Set in the Goa of the early 1990s, Little Thomas appears to capture a time when childhood adventures could begin with something as simple as stepping outside the front door.

Rasika Dugal and Gulshan Devaiah headline the film as Thomas’ parents, bringing a familiar family dynamic to the story. The trailer and promotional glimpses suggest a mix of warm family moments, childhood mischief, church settings and adventures against the scenic backdrop of Goa. Rather than relying on heavy drama, the film seems to find its charm in the little moments that make growing up memorable — awkward questions, family disagreements, laughter and the occasional bit of chaos.

Kashyap’s description of the film also draws comparisons with beloved classics such as Malgudi Days and the stories of Ruskin Bond. That comparison gives a good sense of what Little Thomas is aiming for: a simple yet heartfelt story where ordinary family experiences become memorable adventures. The early 1990s setting adds another layer of nostalgia, taking viewers back to a slower, more innocent period while allowing Thomas’ curiosity to drive the narrative.

Behind the camera is Kaushal Oza, who directs the film, while Anurag Kashyap is among the prominent names backing the project. Little Thomas is produced by Luminoso Pictures, Civic Studios, Good Bad Films and Flip Films. With a child at the centre, a talented adult cast and Goa serving as the film’s picturesque playground, the project promises to blend humour and emotion without losing sight of the simple joys of childhood.

Little Thomas will release in cinemas on October 23, giving families and nostalgia-loving audiences a chance to experience a coming-of-age story with a distinctly Indian flavour. In an age of increasingly loud and larger-than-life entertainment, the film’s gentle promise of childhood curiosity, family bonds and old-fashioned adventure could be its biggest strength.
