Jaipur, Sep 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political tensions have intensified in Lalsot in Rajasthan's Dausa district, after former state Minister and Congress leader Parsadi Lal Meena allegedly made controversial remarks about a transgender candidate during the ongoing municipal council election campaign.
Taking cognisance of a statement circulating on social media, Returning Officer Vijendra Kumar Meena has issued a notice to Meena for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct.
The former minister has been directed to appear in person and submit an explanation. The notice states that failure to respond within the stipulated time could lead to unilateral action.
Election Officer Vijendra Kumar Meena said the notice has been served and that the response will be examined before further action is taken as per the rules.
During a public meeting held in support of the Congress candidate for Ward 1, Parsadi Lal Meena reportedly referred to Meenu Kinnar, the BJP candidate from Ward 34, and said that if she won the election, it would be a “blot” on Lalsot and that the ward would become known as a “Kinnar ward”.
Appealing to voters not to elect Meenu, he reportedly said that the role of members of the transgender community was to serve people and offer blessings rather than contest elections.
He also appealed to Meenu Kinnar to withdraw from the electoral contest.
Ward 34 has emerged as a key point of discussion in the Lalsot municipal elections after the BJP fielded Meenu Kinnar as its candidate. Her entry into the electoral race has turned the ward into one of the closely watched contests in the town.
Reacting to the remarks, Meenu Kinnar released a video in which she asked, “What is my fault in being born a Kinnar?”
She said that she is also a human being and that contesting elections is a right available to everyone.
Appealing to Parsadi Lal Meena with folded hands, she urged him not to make such remarks.
She added that the transgender community and residents of the locality are like her family.
Lalsot MLA Ramvilas Meena condemned the former minister’s statement. He said the BJP had fielded Meenu “Bua-ji”, whom he described as a respected and dedicated member of the transgender community, as its candidate for the Lalsot Municipal Council election.
The MLA alleged that frustration over the election could be behind the former minister’s remarks and said it was “deeply shameful” to use derogatory language against Meenu and the residents of the ward who had chosen to support her.
