Gandhinagar, Sep 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday approved Rs 20 crore for the first phase of work on a proposed bypass road around Visavadar in Junagadh district, aimed at easing traffic movement through the town.
The sanctioned amount will be used for pre-construction activities, including land acquisition, shifting of utilities and preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), according to the state government.
The proposed bypass will connect the Bagasara-Jetpur State Highway with the Visavadar-Satadhar-Sasan Gir State Highway, providing an alternative route for traffic passing through Visavadar.
The approval came following representations from local office-bearers and residents seeking a bypass to address traffic congestion in the town.
The sanctioned amount has been allocated to the Roads and Buildings Department for the first phase of the project. Visavadar is located on an important road network, with the main route connecting Amreli with Somnath passing through the town.
The Bagasara-Jetpur, Dhari-Savarkundla and Visavadar-Satadhar, along with the Junagadh-Mendarda-Keshod State Highways, also pass through Visavadar.
The town is also surrounded by several pilgrimage and tourist destinations that attract large numbers of visitors.
These include the Satadhar pilgrimage site, Sasan Gir Forest, the ancient Kanakeshwari Temple, Dham Rampara in Rupal, Nagbai Temple in Rampara and Sant Shri Rohidas Temple in Sarsai.
The government said the bypass proposal was considered in view of the traffic generated by these routes and the movement of devotees and tourists to nearby religious and tourist destinations.
The Rs 20 crore approval will allow the authorities to undertake the preliminary activities required before the construction of the bypass begins.
Visavadar also forms part of the road network providing access to the Gir region.
The official Gir Lion website lists the Junagadh-Visavadar State Highway among the routes through which the Gir forest can be approached, underlining the town's connectivity with one of Gujarat's major wildlife destinations.
The Gir protected area covers 1,882.6 sq km, comprising the 258.7-sq-km national park, 1,153.4-sq-km sanctuary and a 470.5-sq-km forest buffer zone, according to the Junagadh district administration.
