Hyderabad, Sep 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday sought the intervention of Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla for a thorough investigation into alleged assault on its legislators by the police at the Assembly and subsequent developments.
A delegation of BRS leaders led by party Working President K T. Rama Rao met the Governor at Lok Bhavan and submitted a memorandum.
Rama Rao later told media persons that they apprised the Governor of the prevailing situation in the state.
Alleging that the Constitutional machinery has failed, the opposition party requested the Governor to exercise his Constitutional powers to require the Chief Minister to furnish information relating to the administration of the affairs of the state. It is the duty of the Union to ensure that the government of every State is carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the BRS said.
Rama Rao said they submitted evidence of the police assault on BRS MLAs and MLCs after obstructing them while they were entering the Assembly wearing black T-shirts to highlight the failures during 1,000-days rule of the Congress party.
The Governor was told that when they approached the Police Commissioner’s office, no case was registered, but the police booked false criminal cases against the same legislators.
The BRS delegation alleged that the state is no longer being carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, but a ‘Hitler Rule’ is being embraced and dictatorial governance is being implemented.
The opposition party alleged incitement to violence against the Leader of the Opposition, and what it called inaction upon a publicly stated design to eliminate and orchestrated attack on the residence of former Chief Minister K. Chadrasekhar Rao at Erravalli.
It complained that police erected targeted barricades to intercept and arbitrarily detained BRS MLAs en route, deliberately barring them from reaching the residence of KCR to protect his life, even as attackers continued their assault with complete impunity.
The BRS alleged that a legislator of the ruling party, publicly wishing for the death of the Leader of the Opposition, proceeded with thousands of goons towards his residence under police escort, and no case has been registered.
The party claimed that there is a clear danger to the life of KCR due to Congress party leaders provoked by Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy himself.
On Monday’s incident at the Assembly entrance, the BRS delegation stated that legislators walking to the House in black T-shirts were met with several hundred police personnel, with physical assault, molestation, etc and with criminal prosecution within hours.
“The obstruction was not passive. Members were pushed, seized, struck and dragged. Women members were pushed, grabbed by the throat, touched inappropriately, and pulled by the hair, and their sarees were pulled and torn in full public view,” said the BRS representation.
It gave details of the alleged assault on each of the MLAs and the injuries they sustained.
The Governor was informed that the BRS approached the High Court. The Court passed the order that police shall not stop the legislators from entering the Assembly and that if there is any violation of the Rules of the Assembly, it is for the Speaker to take action and not the police.
The High Court had directed the identification of, and strict action against, erring police officials. To this day, no First Information Report is known to have been registered against any police officer. The direction of the Court has been met with callous and irresponsible silence, it said.
The BRS complained to the Governor within hours of that order and on the same day, two criminal cases were registered against its 14 sitting members. Another case was registered against two Members of the Legislative Council.
The Governor was informed that the competent Court declined to remand the MLCs. That refusal is a judicial determination that the material placed before it did not warrant their detention. The same day, the Legislative Council passed a motion suspending the two Members from the service of the House for the remainder of the session.
The BRS also provided details of the use of police force against peaceful protestors, including students, on various occasions.
