New Delhi, Sep 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) As the death toll in the Satya Niketan building collapse reached seven, two grieving families have made a deeply compassionate decision by donating the corneas of their deceased loved ones at the All India Institurte of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), potentially giving the gift of sight to people in need.
According to information provided by AIIMS, the families of two of the seven deceased victims consented to cornea donation.
The donated corneas may be used for patients requiring corneal transplantation, potentially helping restore vision.
The decision comes at a time of immense grief for the families, who lost their loved ones in one of Delhi's most tragic recent building collapses.
Despite their personal loss, they chose to help others through eye donation, turning an unbearable moment of sorrow into an act that could bring hope to those waiting for the gift of sight.
The collapse occurred at a five-storeyed PG building in Delhi's Satya Niketan area around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Rescue teams pulled 12 people from the debris during an operation that continued for more than 24 hours.
Seven of those rescued later died during treatment, while five injured victims remain under treatment. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Those dead included five students and two labourers.
The students had been living in the Satya Niketan area while pursuing their studies.
The tragedy has also led to arrests and administrative action.
The Delhi Police finally arrested the building owner and two members of her family.
Similarly, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended five officials in connection with collapse of the building.
Meanwhile amid the grief and questions surrounding the tragedy, the decision by two families to donate their loved ones' corneas is being seen as a powerful act of humanity.
According to doctors, their gesture could help transform the loss of life into the possibility of a new beginning for someone waiting to see the world again.
