Gandhinagar, Sep 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat government employees seeking medical certificates for transfers or cadre changes will now have another designated facility in Ahmedabad, with a three-member Permanent Medical Board being constituted at GMERS Hospital, Sola.
The decision is aimed at reducing the workload of the Permanent Medical Board at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which has so far handled medical certificate cases for Class-III employees of the Education Department from eight districts and Class-III and Class-IV employees of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) from four divisions.
"The new arrangement was approved under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and with the approval of Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Praful Pansheriya," officials said.
Primary and secondary school teachers, Vidya Sahayaks and Assistant Teachers require medical certificates when seeking intra-district or inter-district transfers on grounds of serious and incurable illnesses.
Under the new system, employees from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Banaskantha and Surendranagar districts will undergo medical examinations at the Permanent Medical Board at Sola GMERS.
Employees of the Education Department from districts outside this group will continue to obtain certificates through the nearest existing Permanent Medical Board.
The facility will also cover GSRTC employees seeking cadre changes on medical grounds. Class-III and Class-IV employees from the Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Himmatnagar and Palanpur divisions will be able to undergo the required medical examination at Sola GMERS.
Following the examination, the board will issue a permanent ‘Fit’ or ‘Unfit’ certificate. The existing system of District Medical Boards for employees of other government departments will remain unchanged.
Under the Gujarat Civil Services (General Conditions of Service) Rules, 2002, Medical Boards are functioning in Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Vadodara and Surat.
The government said that cases relating to employees from the eight Education Department districts and four GSRTC divisions had until now been handled by the Permanent Medical Board at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, adding to the hospital’s workload.
The Permanent Medical Board at Sola GMERS will comprise three members. A Civil Surgeon or Senior Professor of Medicine will serve as its chairperson.
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital affiliated with the concerned medical college will formally appoint the chairperson and the other members.
The new board will therefore decentralise the process for obtaining medical certificates for eligible employees, while retaining the existing arrangement for employees covered by other medical boards.
The move is expected to provide employees with a designated facility for medical examinations related to transfers and cadre changes and reduce the number of such cases handled by the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital board.
GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Sola is a Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society institution with a hospital and multiple clinical departments.
