Thiruvananthapuram Sep 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) The BJP, encouraged by its electoral breakthroughs in Kerala and sensing a larger political opening after the CPI(M)’s rout in the 2026 Assembly elections, has begun an early organisational overhaul of its Kerala unit, splitting the state into two zones and putting senior general secretaries in charge of its northern and southern regions.
The move is being seen within the party as part of a long-term preparation for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, with greater emphasis on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots and coordinating its various frontal organisations and cells.
M.T. Ramesh has been appointed in charge of the northern zone, covering Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur and Palakkad, while S. Suresh will oversee the southern zone comprising Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.

The organisational revamp comes after a series of electoral gains that have altered the BJP’s position in Kerala.
In the 2026 Assembly elections, the party stunned political observers by winning three seats, two in Thiruvananthapuram district and one in neighbouring Kollam.
This came after the BJP had failed to retain its first-ever Assembly seat in Kerala, Nemom, which it had won in 2016, in the 2021 elections.
The party’s breakthrough had begun to gather momentum at the national level in Kerala with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi scripted history by winning Thrissur, giving the BJP its first-ever Lok Sabha seat in the state.
The BJP’s decision to warm up its organisational machinery also comes at a time when the CPI(M) is facing one of its most difficult phases in Kerala following its crushing defeat in the 2026 Assembly elections.
For the first time in recent memory, open resistance to the party leadership has become increasingly visible, with questions being raised within the CPI(M) over the continuation of Pinarayi Vijayan’s influence despite the electoral setback.
The challenge was particularly striking in the party’s traditional stronghold of Kannur, where two senior leaders contested the 2026 Assembly elections as rebels and succeeded in defeating the official CPI(M) candidates.
The developments have exposed fissures that the BJP is closely watching as it seeks to expand its own political footprint.
Alongside the zonal arrangement, the BJP has appointed new in-charges and co-in-charges for its various Morchas, cells, media and social media wings.
Shaun George has been given charge of the Minority Morcha, Media and Social Media, while Anoop Antony has been appointed State Cells In-charge.
The BJP leadership expects that the changes will help accelerate organisational activity, improve coordination and prepare the party for its forthcoming political programmes.
The appointments take immediate effect.
