Women’s empowerment at heart of Mauritius-South Africa cooperationThe High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Heinrich Giovanni April, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, this morning, at her office in Port Louis.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Deputy Prime Minister and the newly appointed South African High Commissioner to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation between Mauritius and South Africa, particularly in areas relating to women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and family welfare.

In a statement following the meeting, High Commissioner April indicated that discussions focused on opportunities for training and empowering women, as well as supporting women entrepreneurs by facilitating their access to markets and economic opportunities. He pointed out that Mauritius can draw on relevant South African models and experiences in these areas.

 

The High Commissioner emphasised that both sides have agreed to further deepen cooperation, building on the longstanding and cordial relations between Mauritius and South Africa.

Speaking of his priorities as the new High Commissioner, Mr April expressed his commitment to further consolidate the bilateral relationship between the two countries. He highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with a view to fostering economic growth and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest such as the blue economy and sustainable agriculture, while continuing to broaden bilateral and multilateral engagement between Mauritius and South Africa.
