Jhoomo is designed as an upbeat celebration and comes with an impressive musical team. Ram Sampath has composed and written the song, with additional lyrics by Devansh Vaidya. The track features vocals from Saahel, Jonita Gandhi and Ram Sampath, while Vijay Ganguly has choreographed the energetic number. Released on September 3, the song arrives at the perfect time to build momentum for Don't Be Shy, especially as the film prepares to make its global streaming debut later this month.
The movie marks a coming-of-age story with a particularly chaotic romantic twist. At the centre is 20-year-old Shyamili "Shy" Das, played by newcomer Aarushi Bajaj. Shy is used to being the popular "mean girl", but her world turns upside down when Mayank, her boyfriend of three years, suddenly breaks up with her. Hurt and determined to get even, Shy sets out on a revenge mission. The plan, however, takes an unexpected turn when she develops an unusual friendship with Tara, Mayank's new girlfriend.
Written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji, Don't Be Shy explores the complicated emotions that come with being young and trying to figure out relationships. Instead of treating heartbreak as the end of the world, the film appears to use it as the beginning of a much bigger journey involving friendship, self-discovery and unexpected connections. That combination gives the movie a youthful and contemporary flavour, while its ensemble of newcomers brings a fresh face to the story.
The film is produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under Eternal Sunshine Productions, along with Chalkboard Entertainment. Aarushi Bajaj leads the cast alongside Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal, with Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu and Neha Dhupia among the supporting cast. For Alia, the project also represents another step in her journey as a producer, with Eternal Sunshine Productions backing a story focused on young characters and modern relationships.
With Jhoomo now available, Don't Be Shy has another reason to get audiences talking before its September 25 premiere. The combination of a catchy new song, a young ensemble, an unconventional friendship at the heart of its plot and Alia Bhatt's production banner gives the film plenty of personality. Don't Be Shy will stream in Hindi with English subtitles on Prime Video across India and more than 240 territories, taking its story of love, friendship and growing pains to audiences around the world.
