Kareena Kapoor Khan Says Daayra and VIBE Can Both Win at the Box Office

Kareena Kapoor Khan is refusing to treat the September 18 box-office clash between her upcoming crime thriller Daayra and brother-in-law Kunal Kemmu's VIBE as a family feud. Instead, the actor believes that two strong films arriving on the same day can be good news for cinema and is confident that both movies have enough to attract audiences. Speaking at the Daayra trailer launch in Mumbai, Kareena also had plenty of praise for Kunal, particularly his comic timing, while joking that if both films succeed, “the gold” will ultimately come home.

“Kunal is an outstanding actor, one of the best we have in our industry. No one does his comic timing like Kunal,” Kareena said, making it clear that she has complete faith in her brother-in-law's abilities as both an actor and filmmaker. Addressing the simultaneous release of the two films, she added, “I just feel that it's good for cinema when two great films come together. They're both wonderful films and I know that the film is going to do well. Both are going to do well, it's going to be fun, it's going to be comedy, and people are going to see a different side to Kunal.” Her confidence suggests that she sees the clash less as a battle for screens and more as an opportunity for audiences to choose between two very different cinematic experiences.

Kareena then brought a playful family angle into the conversation, saying, “And the gold will come to our home only, so I will be very happy if both films do well and I'm very, very sure that both films are going to do very well.” The remark added some warmth and humour to what could otherwise have been a typical question about box-office competition. While Daayra is a dark, investigative crime thriller directed by Meghna Gulzar, VIBE promises a more fast-paced and comic ride, giving audiences two distinctly different options for the same weekend.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra stars Kareena and Prithviraj Sukumaran as senior police officers navigating the complicated aftermath of a crime that triggers widespread outrage. Inspired by true events, the film follows two investigators with contrasting approaches to duty and justice as they find themselves on opposing sides of a complex case. Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj portrays DCP Raman Kumar, with the film exploring the blurred boundaries between truth, justice and morality. The serious subject and sombre visual treatment make Daayra a very different proposition from the film releasing alongside it.

On the other hand, VIBE marks another major creative step for Kunal Kemmu, who has written, directed and acted in the film. The story follows two close friends whose ordinary lives are suddenly thrown into an unexpected and fast-moving situation, testing their friendship and their ability to survive the chaos around them. Kunal stars alongside Preity, Sparsh Shrivastava and debutant Vanshika Dhir, with the film produced by Kemmu and Chirag Nihalani under Drongo Films. Backed by Amazon MGM Studios, VIBE is expected to showcase a different, more comic and energetic side of Kunal as a filmmaker and performer.

With both Daayra and VIBE arriving in cinemas on September 18, 2026, the clash is certainly an interesting one, but Kareena's message is clear: she is rooting for both films. Instead of worrying about which movie will emerge on top, the actor believes audiences can embrace both — one offering a layered crime drama and the other bringing comedy, friendship and chaos. And if both films manage to connect with audiences, Kareena's playful prediction could become the happiest outcome of all: “The gold will come to our home.”
