Gandhinagar, Sep 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi on Tuesday welcomed India’s stronger-than-expected 7.8 per cent real GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026-27, with both linking the performance to economic resilience amid global uncertainties and supply-chain challenges.
The reactions came after official data showed that India’s economy grew 7.8 per cent year-on-year in the April-June quarter, exceeding the Reserve Bank of India’s earlier estimate of 7 per cent and market expectations of around 7.1 per cent.
Real Gross Value Added (GVA) grew 8.2 per cent during the quarter, while nominal GDP increased 10.3 per cent.
CM Patel, in a post on social media platform X, said the growth rate is evidence of the “unwavering resolve, hard work and collective strength” of 1.4 billion Indians.
He attributed the country’s continued progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, policies and intent, and called for greater emphasis on Swadeshi, ‘Vocal for Local’ and an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ as part of the effort to build a developed India.
“Amid global uncertainties and supply chain challenges, New India has once again shown the world what it is capable of,” CM Patel wrote.
He described the 7.8 per cent Q1 growth as a reflection of India’s resilience, confidence and collective strength, adding that the country was continuing to create new possibilities and strengthen its growth trajectory.
Sanghavi also welcomed the figures, posting, “The vibe? India is in growth mode.” He said the 7.8 per cent growth had come despite global uncertainties, oil-price pressures and supply-chain challenges, and credited the central government’s leadership for the economic momentum.
The latest figures indicate that the economy retained strong momentum despite a difficult global environment.
Manufacturing grew 9.2 per cent in the quarter, while financial, real estate and professional services recorded particularly strong expansion.
Private investment also increased sharply, while domestic consumption remained an important support for growth.
PM Modi, in a video message released on Tuesday, also welcomed the 7.8 per cent growth and described it as a major achievement for the country.
He said the performance was recorded despite wars, global instability and disruptions to supply chains.
The Prime Minister credited the country's people for the economic performance and used the occasion to make a fresh appeal for greater reliance on domestic products and services.
He urged citizens to strengthen the 'Swadeshi' movement and self-reliance, including by avoiding unnecessary foreign travel and weddings abroad and reducing avoidable expenditure on gold.
For Gujarat, the comments by CM Patel and Dy CM Sanghavi come a day after the state government used the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027 curtain-raiser in New Delhi to highlight investment, industrial expansion and Gujarat’s role in the broader national growth story.
CM Patel had said at the event that policy stability, transparent decision-making and swift governance were important for attracting investment.
The state leaders’ responses to the GDP data therefore placed Gujarat’s economic priorities within the wider national narrative of domestic production, investment and self-reliance, while PM Modi’s appeal sought to encourage consumers to direct a greater share of their spending towards the Indian economy.
